Bible Verses About God's Faithfulness

God keeps His word. In the middle of great sorrow, Jeremiah could still write, “They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:23).

What the Bible says

Lamentations was written over a ruined city, yet the prophet remembered, “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not” (Lamentations 3:22). God’s faithfulness does not depend on how things look. Moses called Him “the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him” (Deuteronomy 7:9). What He was to Israel in the wilderness, He still is to His people, every morning.

God is faithful because He cannot lie. “God is not a man, that he should lie … hath he said, and shall he not do it?” (Numbers 23:19). At the end of his life Joshua told Israel that “not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you” (Joshua 23:14). Paul says that “all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). In Christ every promise of God is kept.

His faithfulness holds even when ours fails. “If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself” (2 Timothy 2:13). When we sin and come back to Him confessing, “he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). In temptation, “God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able” (1 Corinthians 10:13). His steadiness, not ours, is the believer’s comfort.

Because He is faithful, we can hold on. “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering” (Hebrews 10:23), for He who promised is faithful. Paul assures us, “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24), and “he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). He does not change: “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8).
