Roadtrip with Jesus VBS
Every mile with the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus is the Way, and He walks with us every mile of the road.
Theme verse
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.John 14:6 (KJV)
The five days
Day 1 · Stop 1 · Cana
Do whatever Jesus says.
Bible story: Water into Wine (John 2:1–11)
Apply it: Mary told the servants, “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” Filling jars with water didn’t seem to make sense, but they obeyed, and they were the ones who saw the miracle up close. Obeying Jesus starts with small things: listening the first time, telling the truth, being kind when no one notices. When we do what Jesus says, we get a front-row seat to what He does.
Day 2 · Stop 2 · Galilee
Jesus takes my little and makes it much.
Bible story: Feeding the Five Thousand (John 6:1–14 · Matthew 14:13–21 · Mark 6:30–44 · Luke 9:10–17)
Apply it: The boy’s lunch was small, but he put it in Jesus’ hands, and thousands ate with twelve baskets left over. We sometimes think we’re too young or have too little to matter. Jesus can use whatever we give Him: a kind word, a prayer, a dollar, a helping hand. What is your “five loaves and two fish” today?
Day 3 · Stop 3 · Jericho Road
Jesus stops for me.
Bible story: Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46–52 · Luke 18:35–43 · Matthew 20:29–34)
Apply it: The crowd told Bartimaeus to be quiet, but he cried out all the more, and Jesus stood still. Jesus is never too busy for you; you can call on Him anytime. Once his eyes were opened, Bartimaeus “followed Jesus in the way”. Jesus stops for us so that we will follow Him, and so we will stop for people others pass by.
Day 4 · Stop 4 · Jerusalem
Jesus died for me and rose again. He is the Way.
Bible story: The Crucifixion and Resurrection Story (Matthew 26–28 · Mark 14–16 · Luke 22–24 · John 18–20)
Apply it: Every road trip needs the right road. Jesus said He is the Way, the only road to God. On the cross He took the punishment for our sins, and on the third day He rose again. You don’t get to God by being good enough; you come by trusting Jesus. Anyone can turn onto His road today: admit, believe and confess.
Day 5 · Stop 5 · Emmaus Road
Jesus walks with me every mile.
Bible story: The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35)
Apply it: The two friends walked seven miles sad, thinking Jesus was gone, but He was walking right beside them. Jesus opened the Scriptures to them, and their hearts burned. Then they ran back to tell everyone, “The Lord is risen indeed.” Jesus walks with us on every road: school, home, hard days. We meet Him in His Word, and we tell others.
