Anchor Point VBS
Hope that holds in every storm. Jesus is the anchor who holds us, in every storm and forever.
Theme verse
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;Hebrews 6:19 (KJV)
The five days
Day 1 · Promise Port
God keeps His promises.
Bible story: The Rainbow Promise (Genesis 8:1–9:17)
Apply it: After the flood, God set His rainbow in the cloud and promised never to flood the earth again, and He has kept that promise every day since. God’s word is always true. When life feels stormy, hold on to what God has promised: He is with you, He hears you, He will never leave you.
Day 2 · Second-Chance Shore
God gives second chances.
Bible story: Jonah Runs from God (Jonah 1:1–2:10)
Apply it: Jonah ran the opposite way from God, but God didn’t give up on him. He sent a storm, a great fish and then a second chance. When we mess up, God doesn’t throw us away; He calls us to turn around. And because God gives us second chances, we can give them too: forgive the friend who hurt you.
Day 3 · Stormy Sea
Jesus is stronger than any storm.
Bible story: Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35–41 · Matthew 8:23–27 · Luke 8:22–25)
Apply it: The disciples were terrified, but Jesus spoke three words and the wind and waves obeyed. Storms still come: sickness, a family fight, a move, a scary night. Jesus doesn’t always stop the storm right away, but He is always in the boat. When you are afraid, pray, “Jesus, You are bigger than this.”
Day 4 · Rescue Harbor
Jesus died and rose again to rescue me.
Bible story: The Crucifixion and Resurrection Story (Matthew 26–28 · Mark 14–16 · Luke 22–24 · John 18–20)
Apply it: Sin is a storm we cannot survive on our own. Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for our sin, and three days later He rose again. Like an anchor holds a ship, Jesus holds everyone who trusts Him: sure and steadfast. Anyone can put their hope in Him today.
Day 5 · Safe Ashore
God keeps me safe so I can share His hope.
Bible story: Shipwrecked! (Acts 27:1–44)
Apply it: In the storm, Paul told everyone on board what God had promised, and all 276 people reached land. God kept Paul safe so he could keep telling people about Jesus, even after a shipwreck. God gives us hope to share, not to keep to ourselves. Who on your “ship” needs to hear about the Anchor?
